~Leather Attachments~
Updated 04/01/08

On this page you will find some sketches and photographs I offer for ideas of different styles & designs of leather attachments for horns and bags. These are only a few of many different ways to attach a strap. Straps may be attached as well with no leather, by leaving long fringe on each end which may be braided and tied to the bag or horn itself.

Several samples of leather tab designs used for previous straps.

Powder Horn with strap attached by simply tying long braided fringe to each end of the horn. Works great, and don't have to mess with sewing leather. This can also be done as a temporary fix until leather attachment styles are decided upon.

Beaded horn strap with leather attachments; tied onto a leather shot pouch.

3 views of a narrow woven strap with leather attachments - here the shoulder piece is woven, with long leather tabs completed with a buckle for adjustment on one side. This is my personal bag handmade by Jeff Cline.

This sketch demonstrates one of many ways to attach a strap to a horn. The sketch shows a heart shape, but any shape will work. Leather is laced through the 4 holes in the center of the heart, and the linen (any course thread is fine) as shown is wrapped around the tabs.

This photo shows a simple horn attachment - the strap is looped around the ring on the horn and sewn down. The same method is used for the throat.

The first 3 straps shown above are attached to horns. Notice the leather designs are sewn about 1-2" above the strap's end, leaving the end of the strap & some fringe to hang loose, which gives a nice look.

*DO YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS OR PHOTOS FOR STRAP ATTACHMENTS?

Powder horn & lettered strap with beaded edging. Strap is tied to the horn with loose fringes.  Bag & straightwoven strap.  My little pottery jug just goes to show a strap of any width can be used to create a handle or tie to just about anything!

*If you have any ideas, suggestions, or photos on the how-to of attaching straps to any accoutrement or firearm,
please drop me an email; and I will pass your tips on to other people by including your suggestion or photograph on
this page. I thank you for stopping by and look forward to your ideas! EMAIL ME
