Quality Handmade Powder Horns by the hands of Cory Joe Stewart.
~ Custom Orders Now Accepted ~

No Picture of an 18th century Mountain man, militiaman or hunter providing for his family would be complete without a few major aspects. These were a gun; whether it be a smoothbore fowler or long rifle, a pouch to carry shot, ball, flints etc, and a powder horn. A person's powder horn became a prized possession. It often included the person's name, and significant dates and places.

"The Tansel Horn"

I have been making powder horns since 1994. I pride myself on making a horn that is functional, attractive, & a historically accurate horn of good quality. All of my work is done by hand; very little is done any differently than it would have been done 200 years ago, giving care & attention to each aspect of the horns making.

"New York Map Horn"
~ based on an original map horn from 1757.

Folk Horn

The Engraving or Scrimshaw began with soldiers simply wanting to identify their horn, and they eventually turned it into an art form. The scrimshaw I do is done with traditional methods. Horns can be personalized and dated for the individual. I also use designs taken from photographs of original horns, my own designs, and maps to decorate the horn.
